Twinkle - Golden Lights (1965)

Twinkle - Golden Lights (LP 1965)

Twinkle (born Lynn Annette Ripley, 15 July 1947, Surbiton, England) is an English singer-songwriter, primarily in the 1960s. Twinkle's most famous songs were "Terry" and "Golden Lights".
In concept "Terry" bore some similarities to the Shangri-Las' "Leader of the Pack" (1964), both teenage tragedy songs about a girl lamenting the death of her daredevil boyfriend in a motorcycle crash. The record caused a furore, accusations of bad taste leading to its ban from the BBC. Only 16 at the time, Twinkle owed her rapid entry into the recording studio to her then-boyfriend, Dec Cluskey, of the popular vocal group The Bachelors, who passed on her demo to his manager. Jimmy Page was among the high profile session musicians who played on "Terry".
Twinkle's main reference to Terry was her friendship in Coombe Hill with 12 year old boys Jerry and Paul, two schoolboys who were infatuated with her.
"Golden Lights" was covered by The Smiths in the 1980s, and appeared on their compilation albums, The World Won't Listen, and Louder Than Bombs. The Smiths' singer, Morrissey, was a great admirer of Twinkle. "Golden Lights" was written about her by Cluskey, by then her ex-boyfriend. In 1983 Cindy & The Saffrons covered "Terry".
Twinkle's effort, "A Lonely Singing Doll", is the English language version of France Gall's 1965 winning Eurovision Song Contest song for Luxembourg, "Poupée de cire, poupée de son". The song was originally written by Serge Gainsbourg. After recording six singles for Decca Records she first 'retired' at the age of eighteen in 1966.
Twinkle's fame faded in the late 1960s, although she continued to record into the early 1980s. Her later recordings appeared under the name "Twinkle Ripley" and she also recorded with her father, Sidney Ripley, as Bill And Coo.
The aunt of actress Fay Ripley, Twinkle attended Queen's Gate School with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

The Outsiders (1966 / 67)

Album: The Outsiders – Time Won’t Let Me + Album “2 + bonus (1966/67).
Género: Pop/Rock.

The Outsiders (USA) were a continuation of the Starfires; a total of eight former Starfires were members of the Outsiders at one time or another. In 1964, the Starfires had added future Outsiders frontman Sonny Geraci on lead vocals and his brother Mike Geraci on sax. In an interview, Sonny Geraci stated: "The Starfires were a few years older than me.... When I joined the group, I kind of like, pushed them to record and change the drummer and change the guitar player." The band was signed to Capitol Records on the strength of their late 1965 recording of "Time Won't Let Me" (written by Tom King and his brother-in-law, Chet Kelley), leaving a local recording label headed by King's uncle, Patrick Connelly (Pama Records); at this time, the band's name was changed. Most of the band's original songs were written by King and Kelley, although another songwriter, Bob Turek was working with the band by 1967. Reasons for the name change were unclear, although most sources state that it was at the insistence of their new record label. "Time Won't Let Me" sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.

The Flames (LP 1971) - 60's South African Group

The Flames - The Flame (LP 1971) - 60's South African Group

The Flames was a musical group from Durban in South Africa. The band was originally formed in 1963 by guitarist Steve Fataar, bassist Brother Fataar (real name Edries Fataar), drummer George Faber and guitarist Eugene Champion. However this line-up would only be together to record a couple of songs. Ricky Fataar replaced George Faber as the band's drummer around 1964 and Edries Fredericks replaced Eugene Champion as the guitarist. Baby Duval briefly replaced Edries Fredericks in 1967 although it is unclear whether he was involved in any of the recordings that were released. Blondie Chaplin then replaced Baby Duval in 1967. This was to be the line-up from 1967 until their demise as a group in 1970.

Steve Fataar has confirmed that Baby Duval is featured as a performer on the Flames second album "That's Enough", which was released in early 1967.
