Johnny Hallyday (15 de Junho de 1943, Paris) é um cantor e ator francês de origem belga por parte do pai. O seu nome verdadeiro é Jean-Philippe Smet.
Pouco conhecido fora da França, Hallyday é uma superestrela no seu país, graças à interpretação de canções populares (em inglês e em francês). Também tentou dar uma imagem de "Cowboy" à americana em filmes rodados na região de Camargue. O seu êxito pessoal começou na era do rock-n'-roll, oferecendo uma imagem de jovem inconformista, com músicas como Let's Twist Again. Em breve era conhecido como o Elvis Presley francês, devido ao fato dos seus shows se basearem na expressão corporal sensual. O seu nome popularizou-se nos últimos anos como marca em "boutiques" de roupa desportiva.
French EP was mainly a vehicle for superstar Johnny Hallyday's mod take of 'Noir C'est Noir' (Black Is Black) however, it contains a couple of hidden treasures by his backing band The Blackburds. 'Les Blackburds' was the name of a backing band for legendary French pop singer Johnny Hallyday, circa 1966 - '68.
Brits Jones and Brown had worked together a few years earlier as they passed through the ever-changing ranks of the group Nero & The Gladiators, gaining some notice before moving on to their own partnership, later recording as the duo The State of Micky and Tommy.
They picked up a variety of session work as well, and in early 1964 were 'designated Brits' in French singer Sylvie Vartan's backing band for a series of performances in Paris.
A professional association with her husband Johnny Hallyday soon followed, and continued through the sixties.
Hallyday released new singles and EPs at a steady clip, and so the band was often traveling from their home in Paris back to London recording studios to capture 'the English sound' with Glyn Johns or other producers.
