Connie Francis, (Concetta Franconero), nasceu em 12/12/1938, em Newark, New Jersey.

Fez sucesso a partir de meados dos anos 50 com músicas como, Stupid Cupid, Who’s Sorry Now, Frankie, Where are the Boys, entre muitas outras. 

Uma artista muito premiada, ganhou vários troféus, tendo lançado 5 discos num mesmo ano.

Conhecida no mundo inteiro não só pelas suas músicas, gravava em vários idiomas – o que facilitava a sua penetração nas mais diversas partes do mundo – mas também pelos inúmeros filmes que fez na década de 60 (comédias tipicamente americanas e/ou filmes românticos).

E tantas outras canções que sempre foram a sua marca registada, com sua voz melodiosa e personalíssima, em que escondia sempre um tom de queixa. 

Foi pena que os seus problemas pessoais e familiares tenham feito com que ela se fosse afastando cada vez mais dos discos e das telas, privando-nos assim da sua arte, que marcou uma época em todo mundo que gosta de música e cinema...

It seems like almost every other week or so, I will stumble upon another blog that focuses on African music. I would say that its much less frequent for Asian music… Maybe once a month at best. But the lack of blogs or websites or what have you that feature the music of the Middle East never ceases to amaze me. There are a few… But not that many. And of the six or seven I can name off the top of my head, three are dedicated to the music of Iran. 

The Golden Age of Persian pop music started as early as the 1950s under the monarchy of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. During his rule, there was an emergence of a new Western-influenced middle class. Soon, record labels started popping up. 

The first label in Iran was Ahang (“song”) in 1959 and pressed their records in Germany. Ahang records were distributed by the Beethoven Music Center based on Manuchehri Ave. in Tehran and owned by Karim Chamanara. By the following year, they were issuing more than two hundred records 45 rpm 7″ records. Six years later, the label change its name to Ahang e Rooz (“song of the day”). 

Royal Records was probably the second largest label in Iran. They began by releasing more traditional Persian music on 78 discs, then reproducing old recordings in the 45 rpm format. Eventually Royal, as well as Ahang and a handful of other labels, started to release new recordings of different artists and in all genres of Persian music – including the new “Beat music”. 

There were a number of Beat groups in Iran, including Flowers, Golden Ring, Littles, Maha Jamin, Ojoobeha (Remarkables), The Rainbow, The Rebels, Shabah. And while there is little information beyond a few photos and sound files, I have read accounts of Ojoobeha riding camels to the stage and The Rebels cruising around Tehran in a black Cadillac convertible. But beyond that… There is not a whole lot. I know that Golden Ring released at least two singles other than the one posted here. They were also the backing band for Aref on some of his earlier singles. The Rebels, also known as The Rebels 5 and The Rebel Kings, released at least three singles – one with a cover of The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There” and another with a version of The Rolling Stones’ “Mother’s Little Helper”. As for the rest, I have only seen one single by each of them. 

Surprisingly, there has yet to be a compilation of any of the music, Beat or otherwise, from Iran from this time period on up until the revolution of 1979. I’ve heard rumors that at least three different people that I know of who are working on compilations. But if and when any those will ever see the light of day remains a mystery.

The Square Set foi uma fabulosa banda sul africana de rock formada em 1967, inspirada na banda Spencer Davies Group, mais divulgada pelos temas, That’s What I Want e Silence Is Golden. Terminaram a sua carreira em 1972.

Malcolm Postlethwaite, bateria, entrou em Setembro de 1967. 

Mike Faure, sax 1968. 

Johnny Boshoff, baixo, em 1972. 

Tony Moore, bateria, em 1972. 

Contam com vários discos editados, entre eles: 

Silence Is Golden, Continental, ZB 8167, 1967; 

Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever, Gallotone, GALP 1573, 1968;

 That's What I Want, Continental/Sony, SZB 8221, 1969. 

“That’s What I Want” was released in England in 1969 where it received a favourable crit in New Musical Express and Neville Whitmill’s grainy vocals were admirably compared to the Peddler’s lead singer, Roy Phillips. The single reached N.1 in Brazil. 

The Square Set had broken up by the time this single achieved its success, they split in 1968, but this surge of interest in the group led to their re-formation with Nol Klinkhamer, Neville Whitmill, Mike Faure, Malcolm Postletwaite and Midge Pike on bass. 

The group carried on for a couple of years but finally broke apart in 1972.

Les Charlots - Merci Patron (Single 1971)

Les Charlots was a group of French comedy actors, who were moderately popular in the 1970s. In English, Les Charlots means "the clowns" rather than being a direct reference to Charlie Chaplin, who was generally called Charlot in France. They were also musicians, accompanying first Antoine under the name of "Les Problèmes". They later made their own band, being first part of the Rolling Stones in the sixties, being considered as some of the more talented studio musicians in France. They finally became rather popular for humoristic songs like "L'Apérobic", "Merci Patron" or "Le Chou Farci".

The group members were Gérard Rinaldi, Jean Sarrus, Gérard Filipelli, Luis Rego and Jean-Guy Fechner (Christian Fechner's brother).

When the five boys became too old to play the clowns and audiences became too bored, the group attempted solo careers. Gérard Rinaldi is now essentially a TV actor, while Jean Sarrus became a TV host. Luis Rego is a movie actor while Jean-Guy Fechner is a movie producer. The last member disappeared from the public eye.

Albert Pavão - Antologia (1963-1991 - Rock e Jovem Guarda)

Albert Pavão nasceu em São Paulo/SP-Brasil. Um dos pioneiros do rock brasileiro, o paulista Albert, depois Albert Pavão, irmão de Meire Pavão e filho do maestro Teotônio Pavão, gravou seu primeiro 78rpm "Tu e Eu" (You and I)/'Move It', em 1962, com acompanhamento do grupo instrumental The Hits. O compacto assinalou a participação de grupos musicais jovens no acompanhamento, até então feito por orquestras e músicos de estúdio. É dele a clássica versão de 'Vigésimo Andar (Twenty Flyght Rock, de Eddie Cochran), arranjada pelo maestro Rogério Duprat. 

Lançada em 1963, com 'Sobre Um Rio Tão Calmo' (Lazy River), no lado "b" do 78rpm, a música fez grande sucesso nas rádios paulistanas. 

Além de gravar, Albert Pavão apresentou-se por todo o Brasil, promovendo o rock and roll e afirmando-se como um dos roqueiros mais radicais da sua geração. 

Albert Pavão lançou no final dos anos oitenta o livro 'Rock Brasileiro, 1955-65', resgatando a história da época, com informações e discografias. Em 1998, a sua obra foi reunida no CD 'Antologia do Rock e da Jovem Guarda', organizado por ele, e lançado pelo selo paulista Bruno Discos.

Atualmente, Albert Pavão mora no Rio de Janeiro e faz palestras pelo Brasil a respeito de músicas, inclusive sobre música infantil.

Interessante este LP de um grupo do Irão (antiga Pérsia), dos anos 60. 

De salientar o tema "Shadogi ", simpática adaptação do tema dos Shadows/Shadoogie.
