Don Charles (EP Decca/Castle Mono CMXBX1461/9 - 1963)

This EP is included in “JOE MEEK – The EP Collection”.

Sinopse:
Joe Meek (producer) is famous for his gonzo approach to sonic innovation. His unique approach to recording technology and instrumentation, coupled with his maniacal ambition and left-field artistic vision, made for some of the most striking pop records of 1960s England. Over the course of 12 discs, this massive box set takes a journey through the EPs masterminded by Meek between 1960 and '63.
As The EP Collection bears out, if British teens in the immediate pre-Beatles era wanted something that sounded markedly different from their parents' music, Joe Meek's music factory was the place to find it. From the Shadows-on-a-bender instrumental sounds of the twangy Tornados and the crazed garage-rock rave-ups of the Flee-Rekkers to the Bizarro Universe pop gestures of John Leyton and John Charles, this is early-'60s pop/rock through a deliciously warped funhouse mirror. The painstakingly crafted package that reproduces the original sleeves of each individual EP is worth the price of admission in itself.
