Durban born Dickie Loader entered the world in 1945 and formed the first line-up of The Blue Jeans in 1957 whilst all the members wew at scholl. He backed Marty Wilde on His 1960 South African tour and as a result got to spend a year in London where he backed Georgie Fame and Billy Fury. Back in South África he reformed the Blue Jeans (now Graeme Beggs-bass, Noel Glover-drums, and Dave Pollecut-guitar). They became a popular beat group in the early and mid-sixties. Don Christie later replaced Beggs but when Christie was killed in a car accident Adrian Agrella filled His place. Later Blue Jeans members included guitarist Mike Slavin in 1967 who was replaced by Neil Herbert in 1968. Howie Jones also joined on drums the same year.
Dickie Loader and The Blue Jeans won SARIEs for Best Pop Group in 1964 and 1965. He enjoyed Top 20 hits with Young Love Can Hurt and Poor Rich Girl.
Loader was forced to split the Blue Jeans after His involvement in a car accident forced him to retire from the music scene, although he continued to record after this. He was only able to resume live work in 1979, with His wife Coleen under the name Romeo. In 1981, they chose a new moniker Scotland Yard and by 1983 they reverted to Dickie and Coleen Loader and were playing country music.
